Im going to ___________ (insert destination). Will a satellite phone work?
Iridium satellite phones work anywhere in the world. As long as you have a clear view of the sky, you can make a call.

How reliable are satellite phones?
Iridium is a military grade network, used by both the Canadian and US armies. The Iridium network consists of 66 Low Earth Orbiting satellites (to compare, GlobalStar has 18 satellites, Inmarsat has 3, Thuraya has 2). The Iridium network is considered to be 98% reliable.

Can I use a satellite phone:
In a car: Yes, at slower speeds, with a complimentary auxiliary antenna kit.
At sea: Yes, best if used on deck, away from the vessels navigation equipment to minimize interference.
In flight: Yes, with a complimentary auxiliary antenna kit.
In a building: Not without an antenna kit.Subject to availability.

Are there any hidden costs?
No. All you pay is the advertised rate, airtime charges, shipping (waived on multi month rentals) and applicable taxes. We do not charge any activation fees.

When should I reserve my phone?
Place your reservation as soon as you know your travel dates. Choose your start date at least 1-2 full business days prior to your departure excluding weekends and holidays to allow for any delivery delays. This will also allow us to 'overnight' a phone last minute if necessary (where available).


Delivery / Returns


Shipping / Delivery times?
We offer free standard shipping on all Iridium satellite phone rentals over 30 days via Fedex Ground. For remote areas we ship with Canada Post.

Last Minute?
We offer overnight shipping via Fedex and Canada Post Priority Courier, standard overnight fee is $49.95 (some exceptions apply).

Need it Faster?
We also offer next flight out delivery via Air Canada Cargo and Buffalo Air to most destinations in Canada. Actual delivery charges apply, vary by destination.

Return Shipping?
For your convenience, we offer prepaid Fedex Ground return waybills at time of rental ($19.99). Simply peel off the label, attach it to the same box the rental was delivered in, and schedule a Fedex Ground pick up or drop off at nearest depot. You can also return in person, or courier of your choice to 215 4 th Street NE, Calgary, AB, T2E 3S1.Ensure the package can be tracked, request signature confirmation and adequately insure for loss / damage.

Usage Costs


How much do additional days cost?
Iridium 9555 extra days are calculated at $9.00 / day, to a maximum of $49.95/ week or $199.00/ month.

When does the actual rental time begin?
Rental starts on the day you request the phone, and the last day of your rental is the day it is received in our warehouse.

Call costs?
Canada / Alaska – calls within Canada / Alaska cost $1.29/ minute, billed in 20 second increments.
Global – outgoing calls anywhere in the world at $1.69/ minute, billed in 20 second increments.

Incoming calls to the satellite phone are billed to the caller at international satellite phone long distance rates, typically upwards of $7.00 per minute (check with your long distance provider for details).

Usage Questions


Can I Text with a satellite phone?
Yes, all our rental phones have voice and capabilities.

How much do text messages cost?
Text cost vary depending on network and plan. A good rule of thumb is that it cost half of an airtime minute.

Can I call a toll free number from a satellite phone?
No. Iridium, Inmarsat and Thuraya are all considered international phone numbers. As such, they can not dial toll free phone numbers.

What optional accessories are available?
We offer a number of optional accessories including auxiliary antennas, spare batteries, solar charges.


Deposits / Refunds


How do deposits work?
All satellite phone rentals must be secured by a credit card (Visa or MasterCard), charged for $500 for the duration of your rental.

When will I get a refund?
Once we receive your rental, we need 1-2 business days to process your return. We will calculate the actual time out as well as the airtime used. You will receive an email with an updated invoice detailing all your charges, and a second email confirming your refund. Please note: detailed usage is not available on Canada / Alaska rentals.
